That attempted robbery took place at around 10.20am on Saturday, February 22, in Beech Avenue at Langlee.

A man dropping off a parcel was approached by a would-be robber attempting to steal it from him.

That attempted snatch theft prompted an altercation, but the victim is said by police not to have sustained any serious injuries while fending off the masked crook.

The suspect gave up after that scuffle and fled empty-handed.

He is described as having been wearing a black balaclava, grey trousers and a black hoodie.

It is possible that he was accompanied by a second man and that the pair left the scene of the attempted crime together on foot after giving up.

Police have issued an appeal for witnesses to help them identify the culprit.

Detective constable Narelle Allan, of the criminal investigation department at Galashiels police station, said: “This incident has left the victim understandably shaken, but he managed to hold on to the parcel that the suspect tried to take from him, and it is now undergoing further investigation.

“We’re eager to hear from anyone who may have been in the Beech Avenue area of Galashiels on Saturday morning and who witnessed what happened or any suspicious behavior or individuals in the vicinity beforehand.

“Equally, anyone with any information to assist our inquiries is urged to come forward.”

Potential witnesses are asked to call police on 101, quoting incident number 1,540 of February 22, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
