He admitted assaulting his partner by holding her by the leg and pulling her downstairs at the Neidpath Inn in Peebles on July 12 last year and spraying a fire extinguisher at her.

Manson admitted behaving in a threatening or abusive manner by shouting and swearing, striking a door and struggling violently with a woman during the same incident.

In Kingsmeadows Road in Peebles on August 9 last year, Manson was searched by police and found to be in possession of a small amount of cocaine, an offence he also owned up to.

He further admitted dangerous driving on the A72 road in Walkerburn, Peebles and Galashiels on November 24 by driving at excessive speed for the rainy conditions and road layout, ignoring a traffic light and refusing to stop when requested to by police.

The court was told Manson reached speeds of 100mph in a vehicle he had borrowed from a disabled person and the police had to stop chasing him for safety reasons.

Sheriff Donald Corke admonished him on the cocaine charge, but for assaulting his former partner he was given a community payback order with two years’ supervision.

For the dangerous driving offence, Manson was ordered to carry out 120 hours’ unpaid work and banned from the road for four years, after which he will have to pass an extended test if he wants to get his licence back.
