Borders man accused of attempted murder

A 41-year-old Hawick man has been remanded in custody after being accused of attempted murder.

The murder bid charge against Paul Aries includes assaulting the man to his severe injury and permanent disfigurement following an incident in Hawick town centre last week.

He is also alleged to have been in possession of a bladed article, namely a knife.

Aries made no plea during a private hearing at Selkirk Sheriff Court and the case was continued for further examination.

He is due to appear in court again next week.
