Commuters set for travel chaos on the trains

Train passengers are set for a day of travel chaos tomorrow (Tuesday) as the first day of the RMT union strikes go ahead.

Trains to Edinburgh from Tweedbank and vice-versa are only operating on an hourly service, rather than half-hourly, after union leaders and Scotrail came to an impasse over driver-only trains.

Early morning and late evening services have also been cancelled.

RMT members are set to stage a series of walkouts over the coming weeks, starting with a 24-hour strike on Tuesday.

The Borders Railway is one of nine services across the country running on a reduced frequency, while several others are set to be cancelled altogether.

Later strike dates are as follows: Thursday, June 23 (referendum day); Saturday, June 25; Sunday, June 26; Sunday, July 3; Sunday, July 10 and Sunday, July 17.
