Church's 150th anniversary

Innerleithen Church of Scotland will be celebrating 150 years of worship in its current Leithen Road building in August. The main events for this will be held from August 11-18.The former church at Kirklands closed on August 11, 1867, and the first service in the current building took place seven days later. The above photograph is the oldest organisers have of the Leithen Road premises after an early alteration was made to reduce the size of the original steeple. Those organising the celebrations are looking for memorabilia from 1867 onwards in preparation for an exhibition in the church during Innerleithen Games Week in July. They are hoping that members of the public may have photographs or other items of interest to form part of the event and are happy to discuss arrangements for safeguarding anything loaned.Further information is available from Julia Stoddart (01896 830410) or Bob Scott (01896 831152).
