CAB is award winningly friendly

Roxburgh and Berwickshire Citizens Advice Bureau has become one of the latest organisations to be awarded '˜Volunteer Friendly' status. The award recognises organisations and groups who are good at involving volunteers in their work. Roxburgh and Berwickshire Citizens Advice Bureau has 53 volunteers operating across Eyemouth, Duns, Kelso and Hawick and were presented with their award at a volunteer and staff training day in Southfield Community Centre, Duns, by the chief executive of Volunteer Centre Borders, Gordon Brown.

The Bureau applied for Volunteer Friendly Status with the volunteers at the fore-front of every stage in the process.

The volunteers planned, interviewed for and wrote the application alongside the Bureau manager, Rhona Calder. The application involved interviewing staff and volunteers about the value of the volunteers to the Bureau and their experience on how the Bureau supports volunteers in their work.

Rhona Calder, manager of Roxburgh & Berwickshire Citizens Advice Bureau said; “It’s fantastic to see the Bureau being recognised for the continued support towards the amazing volunteers who work so hard offering free, impartial and confidential advice right across Roxburgh and Berwickshire”.

The YouthInfo@CAB project, delivered through Roxburgh and Berwickshire CAB, has young volunteers who volunteer with the project workers at the very heart of the project.

Recently, the youth volunteers who created the awareness raising DVD ‘The Domino Effect’ were awarded as ‘Diana Champion Volunteers’ from the prestigious The Diane Award programme. The efforts and value of our young people in the project have been recognised across Scotland, when the DVD was released to all Citizens Advice Bureaus across Scotland last year.

Roxburgh and Berwickshire CAB are always looking for new volunteers of course. You don’t need any prior experience or qualifications, and you get full training, plus expenses.
