Borders Violence against Women award is launched

The award has been developed to recognise the commitment and excellent work of individuals who have made a significant contribution toward addressing violence against women and girls in the Borders.

Louise MacLennan, chair of the Scottish Borders VAW Partnership, said: “The partnership collectively agreed that there should be some way to recognise the efforts made by people across the Borders and that ‘partnership’ in this context also includes communities.

“What we are looking for are nominations made on behalf of people who deserve recognition for the outstanding contribution they have made.

“This could be a worker, public figure or someone who represents a group such as a youth group, someone who goes the ‘extra mile’ to challenge inequality or raise awareness of violence against women.”

Councillor Donald Moffat, executive member for safer communities and chair of the police, fire and rescue and safer communities board, added: “This award is another chance to raise awareness of this important issue.

“The commitment by partner agencies and communities is to be commended but there remains a great deal of work to be done to make sure that tackling domestic abuse is a high priority.”
