Borders MP Mr Lamont, pictured far right, showed his support for the scheme – called community reserve volunteers, which will create a national network of people ready to help in a local emergency – by attending an event at the House of Commons to meet volunteers. He heard first-hand about the initiative, including volunteers’ experiences of being deployed to incidents such as floods and fires, and their reasons for signing up.
