This means that new services are now available to over 17,500 premises in the Borders and the programme, which aims to provide superfast broadband to 94% of premises in the region by 2017, is still on course.

However, despite being on course there are a number of challenges still to be overcome and Scottish Borders Council will raise these with the Scottish Government when the South of Scotland Alliance meets the Deputy First Minister next week.

Parts of the Scottish Borders are also eligible for a pilot project being run by Avanti to provide Superfast Satellite Broadband to certain postcode areas.
