Scottish Borders Council (SBC), along with registered social landlords which operate in the area, has stated it will work closely together to help the UK and Scottish Government programmes to resettle the refugees.

SBC Convener, Councillor Graham Garvie, told us: “I am keen that the Scottish Borders plays its part in providing support to the national co-ordinated effort to welcome refugees from war-torn Syria.

“The Council will also work closely with social housing providers in the Borders to ensure the needs of the refugees are met.

“We will also work with communities who wish to provide help and I am already aware of several Borders households who are keen to be involved and help support these desperate people in such obvious urgent need.”
