New beginnings for Waverley Castle Hotel, as it takes on 40 staff ahead of Monday's reopening

When the hotel went into administration in May last year as part of Shearings Hotels it was feared the hotel would remain closed indefinitely.

However, under new ownership and following a hotel management agreement with Bespoke Hotels, it’s now set to reopen as lockdown eases – with an opening date set for May 17 in accordance with Government guidance.

It’s now part of the ‘Coast & Country Hotel Collection’, a newly-formed collection of former Shearings hotels.

The majestic 77-bedroom hotel, set in five acres of parkland, benefits from a bar, lounge and a games room, while also putting on regular live entertainment for overnight guests and locals to enjoy. With a range of bedrooms to suit (including pet friendly options), rooms are available from £68 per night for bed and breakfast.

Under the guidance of general manager, James Moutrie, who reprises his previous role, the hotel is currently in the process of recruiting 40 staff ahead of its reopening.

As part of reopening, Coast & Country says it has sought to actively re-employ previous staff, whilst also looking to offer new roles to those keen to join the hospitality industry and provide much needed jobs.

Paul FitzGerald, portfolio managing director, said: “Given the enormous challenges of the last few months, we’re delighted to bring the Waverley Castle hotel back to market.

"It’s a lovely property in a delightful location, and we know the initial closure was felt keenly amongst the local community.

"But now, with reopening plans in place, we’re able to offer not just jobs and wider tourism opportunities, but a hospitality service that people can engage with as restrictions lift.”

He continued: “With the country having been unable to enjoy the delights of hospitality for so long, everyone is eager to enjoy themselves post lockdown, and as people are starting to realise these properties are reopening, we’re already seeing keen interest to book – something that bodes really well for their future success.”

Other hotels in the group include the Windermere Hotel in Cumbria and The Ship and Castle in St Mawes, Cornwall.
