Walking back to happiness in the Borders

A Borders walking festival is back up and running after being brought to a standstill by Covid-19.

The popular Galashiels Spring Walking Festival was cancelled last year due to the pandemic.

But it was relaunched in the weekend before lockdown restrictions were lifted with entrants taking part in guided walks to picturesque routes across the region.

Walkers enjoyed sunrise over Gala Hill and festival organisers teamed up with Stow Community Trust to take on the slopes of Torsonce Hill, Caitha Hill and William Law before heading through Ladhope Moor and Blaikes Hill and on to Galashiels.

Festival co-ordinator Tracey Alder passed on congratulations go to the newly qualified walk leaders and gave particular thanks Dougie Johnston, Gary Blair and Jessie Harrington.

She said: “It was the first event of the year and was highly successful, especially as it was held the weekend before restrictions were lifted.”
