NOSTALGIA: Melrose Scouts enter a new era
Melrose rugby internationalist Graham Shiel took centre stage at the official opening of his home-town’s new Scout Hall this week back in 1995.
As a former cub himself, he took time out of his build-up for Scotland’s participation in that month’s Rugby World Cup in South Africa to perform the opening of the scout group’s new headquarters in Gibson Park.
Shiel, capped 18 times between 1991 and 2000, is pictured in our old photo with, back from left, scout leaders Sheila Smith, Liz Cooper, Jim Wilson, Karen Fagan, Yvonne Young, Rosalyn Mitchell and Alan Young. At the front are youngsters Peter and Andrew Denholm and Corey and Isla Young.
