Borders foodbank reports a 150 per cent increase in demand over the past 12 months
A Borders foodbank this week revealed that demand for its services had sky-rocketed during the pandemic.
Over the past 12 months there has been a 150 percent rise in demand at Peebleshire Foobank at Cavalry Park.
The service has supported 416 families, comprising of 950 people, over the last eight months alone.
Fiona Dalgleish, the foodbank’s development manager, this week told members of Innerleithen and District Community Council of the “hidden poverty” she had encountered since taking up the role last December.
She said that for many the need to access support was a new experience, driven by lost working hours, lost jobs and fear of benefits cuts.
