Fiona Dalgleish, the foodbank’s development manager, this week told members of Innerleithen and District Community Council of the “hidden poverty” she had encountered since taking up the role last December.

She said that for many the need to access support was a new experience, driven by lost working hours, lost jobs and fear of benefits cuts.
