Outstanding weather smiles on Benty’s event
“Entries for the industrial tent were up considerably and the tent this year looked amazing, packed full of entries, all up to the normal high standard. The sheep entries were roughly the same as last year, most of the classes fairly big in size and very strong, which would not have given the judges an easy job.
“In the afternoon the spectators were treated to the children’s sports, dog classes, terrier racing, hound trails, the fell race and sheaf tossing, all on the showfield. We finished the day off with a barbecue at night. The atmosphere again this year at the show was superb, everyone really seemed to enjoy themselves.”

Full results of the fell race were: 1st – Stewart Pool, 2nd – Alistair Hogg, 3rd – Matthew Pool and 4th – Sandy Porter.
There were another couple of presentations after the cups were given out. The first one was to Wull Little who stepped down as chairman of the show after 13 years.
Prior to this he was vice-chairman for 17 years and a long-serving committee member. Mrs Anne Wood (the treasurer of the show) presented Wull with a weather station and gardening vouchers to thank him for all his hard work over the years. Wull is now a lifetime member of the Benty Show.

Wull Little and Walter’s employer, Gillian Patterson, presented the award and medal to him. Walter’s wife, Jean Bell, was also presented with a bunch of flowers.
The cup winners, right, were presented with their prize by Wull Little.
