At their weekly Primestock sale last Wednesday, John Swan Ltd had forward and sold 1,101 lambs and 512 ewes.

Similar numbers forward but all classes significantly dearer, more buyers in action, greater numbers needed to satisfy demand.

At their weekly primestock sale on Monday, John Swan Ltd sold 70 clean cattle, 76 OTM cattle, 2,044 new season lambs and 717 ewes.

Bullocks (33) averaged 219.5p per kg and sold to 239p (+0.5p on week).

Heifers (35) averaged 215.5p per kg and sold to 250p (+2.9p on week).

The 76 beef type OTM cattle averaged 120.7p per kg and sold to 182p (+2.8p on the week).

New season lambs averaged 180.6p per kg (+12p on the week) £78.13 per head and sold to £93, top price 209p per kg for Beltex.

Ewes averaged £59.89, and sold to £105 for a Texel, heavy ewes averaged £67.60; Light ewes sold to £57 for BF and averaged £44.

The Cumberland and Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart plc had forward 33 prime cattle, three young bulls, 26 over 30 month cattle, 6,184 prime lambs and 5,281 cast ewes & rams at their weekly sale at Longtown last Thursday.Prime cattle sold a shade easier but for a poor quality show. Top price to 217.5p for a Limousin bullock shown by J.W. Vevers, High Stenries. A shortage of well fleshed cows forward with leaner cows harder to cash. Top price to 157.5p and 155.5p for Limousin cows shown by A. and A. Ewing, Dumbretton.

Larger show of 6,184 prime lambs met the dearest trade of the season so far.
