The Newcastleton show was due to take place on Saturday, August 29. However organisers say it has been cancelled “with a heavy heart” and is now taking place on Saturday, August 28, 2021.

That call-off follows the recent cancellations of Roberton, Peebles and Newtown shows usually held in July and August.

The region’s final two shows of the season – at Langholm on Saturday, September 26, and Yetholm on Saturday, October 3 – are still going ahead as things stand, though.

A Yetholm Border Shepherds’ Show spokesman said: “We are very much hoping that our show will go ahead as it’s not until October but we will have to adhere to guidelines.

“We will not be having a tattie dig this year due to the current social distancing and self-isolating regime.

“There are many factors to consider before a decision can be made.”
