Sowing seeds of festive cheer in Berwickshire

Older people from Berwickshire’s farming and crofting communities are being invited to come together for a free festive lunch in Duns this December.

Agricultural charity RSABI will host the gathering at the White Swan in Market Square on Thursday, December 10, offering a chance to catch up with friends, meet new people and share memories over a meal.

The event forms part of the charity’s Ploughing On initiative, which celebrates the contribution older people have made to Scottish agriculture while helping tackle loneliness and isolation.

Anyone aged 65 or over with a farming or crofting background is encouraged to attend.

The initiative recognises a lifetime of dedication to the industry and gives people an opportunity to maintain connections with their local agricultural community.

RSABI chief executive Carol McLaren said: “We’re delighted to be bringing the Festive Lunches back this year following such a positive response from the agricultural community last year.

“These events are a lovely opportunity to celebrate the contribution older people have made to Scottish farming and crofting, while giving people the chance to catch up with old friends, make new connections and share stories over a festive meal.”

She added: “We’re incredibly grateful to the local volunteers, businesses and organisations who are helping to make the lunches possible. Their support means we can continue bringing people together in farming communities across Scotland.”

Tickets for the Duns lunch are free but subject to availability. Those booking are asked to provide details of any access, dietary or other requirements.

The White Swan is at 31-32 Market Square, Duns.

Booking links are available through www.rsabi.org.uk/plough-on/, with tickets issued via Eventbrite.
