Swinging through the trees with the greatest of ease

However, despite 2015 being one of the wettest summers on on record, Go Ape, which has a forest adventure site in Glentress, near Peebles, continued to reach new heights, after more than 50,000 visitors swung through the trees in its three Scottish sites during the 2015 season.

The UK’s leading forest adventure brand also operates Tree Top Adventure sites in Stirlingshire and Aberdeenshire – which, along with Peebles, experienced a record turnover of £1.2million and a combined growth of 3% over the past 12 months.

The Peebles adventure in Glentress Forest takes advantage of the valley for some jaw-dropping exposure and features the highest zip in the country, located above a reservoir. The company, which has 29 sites in total across the UK, saw revenue increase to £20million in 2015, an 8% rise year-on-year.

In total, 860,000 customers visited Go Ape in 2015, enjoying the range of activities across the 29 sites including Tree Top Adventure, Tree Top Junior, Forest Segway and Zip Trekking Adventure.

Go Ape is planning further investment and growth in 2016 with the continued roll out of Tree Top Junior at existing Tree Top Adventure forest locations.

Jerome Mayhew, managing director of Go Ape, said: “Despite one of the rainiest Scottish summers in history, we achieved a record turnover in Scotland in 2015, showing that regardless of the weather, there’s still strong demand for outdoor-based activities from Scots who love living life adventurously.

“Our Scottish customers can swing through the tree-tops on zip wires and tackle obstacles and rope crossings in the great outdoors, whilst enjoying some of the country’s most breathtaking scenery.”
