Back in 1972, Allan was working as a trainee in the quarry at Dunbar, which produces materials for the construction industry in the UK and around the world.

During his career he has worked for a number of different
cement plants, taking up the roles of quarry manager and plant manager in Derbyshire, Staffordshire, south Wales, the Middle East, the US, and, most recently, in South Africa.

Now back home in Dunbar, Allan has responsibility for spearheading the direction and operations of the cement plant.

The new plant manager said this week: “I have fond memories of working at this plant.

“It is great to have a strong team behind me here in Dunbar.

“We have a very busy and challenging time ahead of us, but I’m optimistic about the future and that by working together, we can achieve our aims.”

The Dunbar company, which celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2013, is estimated to contribute around £8 million to the local economy every year.
