Jedburgh auctioneers take lots online during Covid-19 lockdown

Jedburgh auction house Brown and Turner has rescheduled its March auction, cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic, changing it to an online event on Saturday, May 18.

For the first time, buyers will be able to join the auction online or via conference call to bid for items at an internet surcharge of 3% plus vat, rather than the usual 4.95%.

Show room visits, spread out to adhere to social distancing rules, or video call viewings can also be arranged in the week before the online auction.

Auctioneer Ronan Brown said: “These are very challenge times for everyone, and we are committed to providing additional support to those who need assistance in house clearances, removals, storage, selling and buying of items.

“A move to online auctions behind closed doors is the only viable and safe option for the foreseeable future.

“This is a very hard time for everybody, throughout the country, and we want to ensure the safe continuation of our services to all our customers. Our experienced, professional team are able to support people through house moves, clearances and buying, selling and storing items in a stress free as possible manner.”

Last month Brown and Turner announced it was working with StorageXpress and marquee hire firm Best Intent, both based in St Boswells, in a bid to diversify their businesses and lend a helping hand during the lockdown period put in place by the UK Government this week.

Mr Brown added: “With one point of contact and one team to manage and complete all aspects different items from one house can go to auction, storage and new premises, ensure social distancing can be maintained with exposure and stress kept to a minimum.”

For those wanting to consign items to forthcoming auctions, goods can be valued via a video appointment, over the phone or from pictures.
