Eco-home company brings home top industry award

A Galashiels company has been recognised for its work in mastering the eco-friendly, self-build home market.

Fjordhus Construction Ltd. is an award winning Galashiels based design and build company, which is looking to increase its workforce in the Borders.

The company was part of a team, which included Ross Martin Architect and Oakridge Developments based in Dalkeith, that recently won The Herald Property Awards for Scotland 2015.

The team took home their prize for a development at The Gardens, at West Linton, and they are fast becoming one of the front runners in the eco-friendly, bespoke, self build home market in Scotland and now plans to expand its operations to become a National House Builder.

The company have already built homes in Kent, Cambridge and Preston.

Fjordhus create designs alongside their customer, making use of the latest advances in design materials and technology.

They also guide prospective home builders through the planning process, help obtain building control and then supply a pre-manufactured home, constructed in their state of the art production facilities in Scotland.

This is then constructed on the customers’ own land.

Fjordhus are now looking to the future, and aim to double their output within the next year and continue their growth in the coming years.

Craig Richardson, the company’s managing director, said this week: “We are excited about our future and hope to expand our work force here in the Borders.”

He continued: “We have over 20 years experience in building timber frame homes which can have the facade of the customers choice and our construction teams have worked with us for many years.

“This is vital for close communication and reliable trustworthy relations, which are all required to make the construction phase as efficient and straight forward as possible.”

Craig continued, speaking of his firm’s 16 years of experience in the field.

“As a family business,” he added, “we are proud of our customer service along with our Scandinavian renowned design and quality.”

He added by looking at the future.

“We have just exhibited at the Built It live show in Manchester,” he said, “and will be exhibiting at Birmingham, Edinburgh, Glasgow and London within the next six months.
