Preview: IDEOMS take on Burns at Bowhill
The company will perform the songs and poems of Robert Burns as part of a play set in rural surroundings, and not only are visitors promised an evening of unique and quirky entertainment, but they’ll also enjoy supper and a dram for a more traditional take on proceedings.
The menu includes the traditional Burns Night fayre of haggis, as well as a Scottish dessert, in the intimate surroundings of Bowhill’s Courtyard Restaurant.

Hide AdIDEOMS is renowned for presenting the work of Burns using unusual visuals and witty jokes, whilst still retaining the integrity of the infamous material.
John Nichol, of IDEOMS, said: “Our take on Burns is very unique. He often used animal dialogue to illustrate his situation or to make comment on social issues. That’s why we use a rural setting incorporating the farmyard, surrounding fields, the church and the pub to loosely portray a day in the life of Burnsian characters – as well as a variety of beasts.
“It allows those well-versed in Burns to enjoy the work from another perspective, and is a great introduction for those less familiar with his works. And more importantly, it’s a very fun evening out.”
Helen Currie, who is house and events manager at Bowhill, said: “Our annual Burns Supper is definitely less than traditional, but is entertaining from start to finish – thanks to the performers from IDEOMS. I’d recommend it to anyone who hasn’t come along in previous years.”
