Borders artists celebrate 21st with open weekend

To celebrate 21 years, Pauline Burbidge and Charlie Poulsen are hosting an open weekend at their Allanbank Mill Studio in Berwickshire.

Guest artist is Halima Cassell, showing her carved ceramic as part of her world tour this year, with exhibitions in New York, Germany, London, Jakarta ... and Allanbank Mill Steading – her only venue in Scotland.

Pauline will be showing new ‘Quiltline’ pieces with a new approach to the drawn line, free-hand drawing with her special stitching machine housed in the Granary.

Charlie’s new work is an exploration of casting layers of organic material into lead columns. The materials – twigs and plant stems – are exposed like layers of fossils in bedrock when the sides of the column are sawn.

To celebrate their 21st anniversary, they will also be launching their book, Open Studio, which charts their growth and development.

The open weekend runs from August 1-4, from 11am-6pm each day, at Allanbank Mill Steading, Allanton, Duns.
