31-year-old man arrested in Jedburgh this morning after the emergency services swooped at a riverside location

A 31-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of a break-in at a building site in Jedburgh after emergency services converged near to an old town bridge this morning.

There was a hive of activity and a heavy police presence at the Townfoot bridge at Bongate, adjacent to the A68, mid-morning today.

Officers were joined by fire crews and the ambulance service was also at the scene.

In addition a Scottish Fire and Rescue Service dinghy was spotted scouring the Jed Water.

Initial reports suggested the swoop was related to a theft at Jedburgh Grammar campus.

But an official statement from Police Scotland has now revealed that the operation in fact related to a break-in at a premises on Lothian Road.

A police spokesperson said: “We were called to reports of a break-in at a building site on Lothian Road, Jedburgh around 10.05am this morning.

"A 31-year-old man has been arrested and enquiries continue.”
