There’s only a month to go until the 12th Innerleithen Music Festival.

This year’s concert headliners are Aly Bain and Phil Cunningham, Scots-Irish group Boys Of The Lough and The Shee, along with Robyn Stapleton, the current BBC Young Traditional Musician of the Year.

Festival publicity coordinator Robin Dempsey told The Southern: “All the events are in place, ticket sales are encouraging and we’re looking forward to another weekend of great music.”

Boys Of The Lough appear at the festival on August 16 in an exciting double-header concert with The Shee.

In conjunction with the festival, The Southern has two tickets to the concert. Just tell us, what two countries are represented by the members of Boys Of The Lough.

The last piece in the festival jigsaw has just been put in place – the workshops which are an essential part of the programme. These allow the professionals who will be performing over the weekend to share their skills with budding local musicians.

Robin said: “They’re a great opportunity for people who have made a start with their instruments to learn some of the tricks of the trade from hugely accomplished performers, whilst the singing workshops are open to all.”

Well-known Borders musician and teacher Shona Mooney leads a fiddle workshop on the Saturday morning (August 16), while singers can enjoy a harmony workshop led by the very popular teaching duo, Kathy Stewart and Frances Taylor, learn local Borders songs with Kirsty Law, and Scots songs with Fiona Hunter on the Sunday.

Other workshops on offer are guitar with Mike Vass, mandolin with Laura-Beth Salter and fun percussion with Alison Cameron from Nomad Beat, the Peebles music school.

Tickets for workshops are available at the door, from Scotlight in Innerleithen, or places can be reserved, email:
