St Ronan’s annual Christmas concert brought about a fitting end to a very successful year.

2013 saw the Innerleithen band crowned 3rd Section Scottish Champions, Scottish Challenge Cup winners, Scottish Third Section Band of the Year, as well as being awarded the trophy for Best Borders Band at the regional contest.

With near capacity audience in the town’s Memorial Hall, and under the inspiring leadership of musical director Chris Bradley, the atmosphere was electric and it was obvious from the downbeat in the first piece, Sleighride, that both the band, Future Band, and audience were out to enjoy themselves.

A plethora of Christmas tunes and hits followed before the new chairman of Innerleithen & District Community Council, Paul Faris, took to the stage and thanked the band and the Future Band for all the hard work in the town. He then presented the community council trophy for the young player giving the most commitment to St Ronan’s Future Band over the last year.

Ten-year-old cornet player Ally Norman was a popular recipient of this award and received well-deserved applause from the audience and his fellow musicians. The Future Band concluded their short programme with Don’t Stop Believin’.
