The Borders Music and Arts Society’s 2014 season concludes with a recital next Thursday, September 11, by The Scottish Reed Trio.

Frances Pybus (clarinet), Catherine Earnshaw (oboe) and Heather Kent (bassoon), will perform a wide-ranging programme of music with pieces from the late 18th century through to modern times – Handel, Mozart, Beethoven, Rossini, Milhaud, Walthew and McDowall.

The trio met whilst studying at the RSAMD and came together to form The Scottish Reed Trio in 2008 because of their shared enjoyment of chamber music. Catherine works as a freelance oboist with orchestras in Scotland such as Scottish Opera, the RSNO and Manchester Camerata and the Lancashire Sinfonietta in England. Frances was twice a member of the winning ensemble in the RSAMD Governor’s recital prize for chamber music. She performs throughout Scotland working with various ensembles.

Heather is an established freelance bassoonist and contra-bassoonist working in Scotland and England with orchestras such as Scottish Opera, BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra and the RSNO.

Tickets for the recital, which takes place at Mellerstain House, from 7.30pm, cost £13.50 for members and £17.50 for non-members – under 18’s are half price. Contact Mrs Pauline Walker on 01750 21687. Supper at the close of the recital, with the opportunity to meet the artistes, is optional but must be booked and costs £6 per person.
