Violinist Gina McCormack, who is well-known to Borders audiences, makes a return visit to Mellerstain House today (Thursday) to give a recital with her duo partner, pianist Nigel Clayton, in the concert series promoted by the Borders Music and Arts Society.
The varied programme will take the audience from Schubert, through Debussy and Fauré and on to Prokofiev, finishing with the exciting Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso by Saint-Saëns.
Apart from performing with Nigel, her concert schedule includes tours this year to Hong Kong with the London Chamber Orchestra and to Romania with the Scottish Ensemble, and she will be leading the ballet orchestra at Sadlers Wells Theatre in London this summer for choreographer Matthew Bourne’s show Car Man. She has led his orchestra for many years during their London seasons, including playing the solos more than 100 times in his famous Swan Lake ballet.
Gina, above, is also an enthusiastic teacher, lecturing in violin at both the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester and the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in Glasgow, and believes passionately in trying to inspire the next generation.
The evening starts at 7pm with a reception at which canapés, bubbly and soft drinks will be served, and after the recital there is an optional supper which must be pre-booked.
Prices for the concert, the reception included, are £16.50 for members and £20.50 for non-members ,with the under-18s at half price. Supper is £7.50.
