A recruitment drive with a difference will take place at Thirlestane Castle, Lauder, on Saturday, April 18.

In line with the Borders Vintage Automobile Club’s (BVAC) Back to the Future theme for this year’s motoring extravaganza, which takes place on June 7, a panel will be casting for character lookalikes to help with the show.

“We’re looking for convincing Doc Brown and Marty McFly impersonators,” said show chairperson Fred Magill.

“They will be supporting two professional actors from the Hearts and Mind’s Clown Doctors, who will be showing off the star of the event, a wonderful DeLorean car, a replica of the one featured in the film.

“Not only are we searching for lookalikes, but we want the whackiness of Doc and the whirling confusion of Marty, who have found themselves at the BVAC event after being hurled into the future in a DeLorean from the town of Hill Valley, California, in 1985.

“Anyone over 16 can apply and BVAC can offer payment for the adventure to successful applicants.

“We are expecting them to turn up for audition at Thirlestane in costume. The hopefuls will be expected to have a good knowledge of the films.”

Mr Magill continued: “It’s going to be a cracking event this year and we’re proud that the show has been rated one of the top five classic car shows in the UK by Sunday Times readers, and with this year’s exciting theme and the astounding DeLorean, we may even top that this year.”
