Author and former soldier Andy McNab will be at Mainstreet Trading bookshop on Wednesday, May 21, to talk about his latest novel, Fortress, the second in his Tom Buckingham series.

Renowned for his energetic and exciting events, this is a man who writes from personal experience.

As a young soldier McNab (the writer’s pseudonym) fought the IRA in the streets and fields of South Armagh. As a member of 22 SAS he was at the centre of covert operations for nine years – on five continents. During the Gulf War he commanded Bravo Two Zero, a patrol that, in the words of his commanding officer, ‘will remain in regimental history for ever’.

It is generally acknowledged that the bestselling work in the warfare genre is Andy McNab’s extraordinary account of the 1991 capture of his SAS patrol in the Middle East – Bravo Two Zero.

Published two year later, it has sold an estimated two million copies. It kicked off a remarkable writing career for McNab who was awarded both the Distinguished Conduct Medal (DCM) and Military Medal (MM) becoming most highly decorated serving soldier when he finally left the SAS.

Since then he has become one of the world’s bestselling writers, drawing on his insider knowledge.

As well as three non fiction bestsellers, he is the author of the bestselling Nick Stone thrillers, several other fiction and non-fiction titles, as well as Boy Soldier, a very popular series of books for young adults.

The author’s talk will be followed by Q&A session and book signing.

The event starts at 7.30pm (doors open 7pm) and tickets are priced £8 (inc. a glass of wine), £4 for under-18s (this event is aimed at adults and young adults).
