Jayne’s in the frame

A new Peebles gallery has opened with a photography exhibition by a former press photographer.

Jayne Wright, who used to work for the Scotsman, set up on her own in January and the showcase at Upstairs, on Northgate, features a variety of Jaynes work, spanning almost 20 years.

Jayne told WOW: “The exhibition is really a celebration of almost 20 years working as a photographer.

“I went freelance in January after taking redundancy from The Scotsman.

“My little girl was my inspiration – after spending a lot of my maternity leave photographing her, I then started photographing friends’ babies and it has snowballed from there.

“I really wanted to be able to spend as much time at home with Emilia as possible, but still wanted to continue working, doing what I love to do.

“I have decided to take every opportunity that comes my way, hence the exhibition.

“The exhibition came off the back of an enquiry I made and I thought it would be a good boost to my freelance career – especially as the client base there is perfect for my new line of work.”

During her career, Jayne has done fashion shoots for local businesses such as Eribe, and daredevil biker Danny MacAskill, which was published in the New York Times.

The exhibition runs until the end of July.
