Preview: Musicians join forces for family fundraiser

Super-dynamic fiddle player Carly Blain (Monster Ceilidh Band) heads the line-up. As well as playing a solo spot, she will be showcasing her own band of youngsters, Highline.

Next is the virtuosic Blackthorne Ceilidh Band – featuring Bob Liddle and Charlie McIntee on accordian, plus Louise Douglas (from Kirkton, Hawick).

Then there is the legendary Small Hall Band based in Birgham, nominated for the 2015 MG ALBA Scots Trad Awards. Over the years this group has produced many young musicians who have gone on to successful careers in music. Two of them are returning to play together in the concert: they are Jane Oxnard from Northumberland, who will be singing and playing with the multi-talented, multi-instrumentalist Scott Turnbull from Birgham.

The well-known Border Fiddle Group from Jedburgh, with roots in border fiddle music going back generations, will also be taking part. Other musicians featured are classical/jazz viola player Stephen Tees partnering unique guitarist Andrew Smith, and Kelso flautist extraordinaire Martin Marroni. The concert, which should be an antidote to a wintery Sunday, is an afternoon event, so families are welcome.

Stephen wanted to organise this concert in memory of a dear friend, Philip Laidler, who died suddenly last year. Philip was a big fan of all the acts appearing in this concert.
