Fancy a torchlit adventure around the Muckle Toon?

The inspired Muckle Toon Adventure Company will hold The Muckle Toon Pumpkin Run, the town’s first night trail race, on Saturday, November 1, from 5pm.

The charity, formed by local volunteers, aims to promote and provide the opportunity to participate in outdoor activity in and around the Langholm area.

Langholm Cricket Pavilion plays host to the new event where competitors and spectators can congregate from 3pm onwards for an evening of Halloween fun.

The six-mile race will get under way as the sun goes down at around 5pm, seeing competitors don their head torches and set off on a challenging trail route with a spectacular “sting in the tail”.

After cheering off the runners, the family Trick or Treat Trail, a one-mile family fun walk, takes place, which has all ages hunting for hidden clues en route before solving the puzzle and hopefully gaining a treat at the end of the walk.

Organisers say: “Torches are essential and Halloween fancy dress is desirable for a night of spooky adventure.”

The evening concludes with a talk from former Borders GP, author and ultra marathon runner Andrew Murray at the Buccleuch Centre.

He will talk about his 2,659-mile John O’Groats to the Sahara desert run in 2011, when he completed 101 marathons in just 77 consecutive days, setting a new British record.

Since then he has has completed seven ultra marathons on the seven different continents in under a week, run 5,895 metres up Mt Kilimanjaro in seven hours, and won endurance races in places as diverse as the North Pole, Outer Mongolia, the Indonesian jungle, and Antarctica.
