Classical guitarist heads to Hawick

Ross graduated in 2015 from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland with a master of arts and first-class bachelor of music with honours, having studied classical guitar performance with Professor Allan Neave.

In 2016 he began studying part-time at the Segovia Guitar Academy in Pordenone, Italy, with Professor Paola Pegoraro.

Modern Spanish composers feature mostly in Ross’ repertoire, beginning with Frederico Mompou and his elegant Catalanonian folk-inspired music, concluding with Joakin Turina and the Sevilliana.

Ross has a particular interest in baroque and early music which is reflected in his choice of composers, J.S.Bach and John Downland.

He has given recitals across Britain, including at the Glasgow City Halls Recital Room as part of the BBC SSO Club Concert series.

Whilst studying at the RCS, Ross won the North East Guitar Society Award and the Governors Recital Prize for strings, and reached the finals in other major competitions.

He has collaborated with numerous composers and since graduating has worked with Scottish composer Savourna Stevenson on a piece for flute and guitar, commissioned by Live Music Now Scotland for their Composing with Care project.

In 2016 Ross successfully auditioned as a soloist for Live Music Now Scotland and also works as a music practitioner with the Glasgow-based arts charity, Paragon Music.

The maestro will present a warm Mediterranean programme on January 19 – a marvellous antidote for a cold winter’s afternoon.
