Tindle to take on Ali at Langholm

There is a double bill of meetings on the open athletic scene this weekend with the staging of Langholm Games on Friday and Lauder Games on Saturday, writes John Slorance.

One of the main features on the Langholm card is the 90 metres Border Athletics Championship when amongst the sprinters bidding for title glory are high flying pair Cameron Tindle of Berwick and Hawick’s Dylan Ali.

Representing the TLJT Club and coached jointly by Bruce Scott and Henry Gray, 17 year old Tindle has recently been competing in the IAAF World Youth Championship in Cali, Colombia and come September the Berwick speed merchant shall be wearing the blue vest of Scotland in the Commonwealth Youth Games in Samoa.

Ali from the Hawick Sprint Club has been in top form throughout the season on the games circuit and has pulled off several wins including being crowned Border Athletics 100 metres champion at Jedburgh Games.

In the 90 metre handicap, Tindle runs from scratch while Ali is off 2 metres.

Going from the back in the 800 metres handicap on the Castleholm track is Colin Welsh of Kelso (25m), Rory Anderson (25m), Andrew Thomson (55m), Kyle Potts (65m) and Gavin Taitt are amongst the other Border athletes going in the half mile,

The 90 metres handicap is the top race of the day at Lauder Games.

Back market for this one is Kieran Reilly of Lasswade (4.5m).

Jedburgh Games winner Terry Marshall of TLJT is off 6 metres.

Colin Bruce (12.5m), Craig Bruce (8m), Megan Shiel (20m), Mark Mathison (10.5m), Kevin Amos (15m), Martha Douglas (18.5m), David Mckay (13m), Greig Purcell (10m), David Hush (20.5m) and Ryan Elliot are some of the Borderers involved.

Thomas Otton (40m), Gary Hunter (70m), Bruce Hughes (70m) and Dean Whiteford (105m) are amongst the Border distance men in the 1600 metres handicap.
