St Bowells kicked out of Bowl final

Hopes of winning their first Scottish Bowl title have all but gone for St Boswells RFC after being kicked out of this year’s final for fielding ineligible players.

The decision was taken at an SRU Championship Committee meeting last night where the Jenny Moore’s Road outfit were also docked 14 points.

The club have seven days to appeal the decision but Director of Rugby Dave Elliot believes the chances of his club winning are slim to non existent.

“Once the SRU have made up their minds about something that is usually it,” he told TheSouthern.

Never the less the club will be appealing and will have legal assistance to help them fight their cause in the coming week.

“Three of the players in question have all played more than 50% of their games for St Boswells this season and the other was retired and came in to help us out. This has came about due to a breakdown in communication between St Boswells RFC and the SRU regarding player registration.

“We have written documentation to back up our case but at last night’s meeting they didn’t seem to be bothered with that.

“They are the SRU, they are beyond the law. Indeed they are the law!”

The SRU will send out an official statement later this morning.
