Kus is named ‘Bandit of the Year’

Matej Kus has been named as the Berwick ‘Rider of the Year’ for 2014.

The Czech, who finished a successful first season with the Bandits by topping their averages, was presented with his trophy at a hastily arranged presentation on Sunday afternoon.

Berwick had been due to race against Glasgow at Ashfield in the second part of a double header, which had resulted in the cancellation of the club’s planned end of season party.

But when the Glasgow meeting was postponed on Sunday morning because of bad weather - the 19th postponement suffered by the Bandits this year - pland were mae to hold the event at Berwick Rugby Club.

The presentation was made by promoter John Anderson and director George Hepburn who said:

“The event had to be arranged at very short notice - just a few hours in fact - and we would like to thank everyone who turned out.

“The ‘Rider of the Year’ award, as voted for by the fans, went to Matej, and he was a deserving recipient, as he finished the season as our number one.

“He had a fantastic spell for us at reserve and of course one of the highlights was his paid 21 maximum, the first achieved by a Berwick rider in ten years.”
