Berwick Bandits 55-37 Workington Comets

Overall, this was a comfortable victory for the Bandits, who saw Claus Vissing rattle off an impressive 15-point maximum, whilst Kevin Doolan dropped only one point to an opponent in his five starts.

Berwick made the best possible start with two 5-1s in the opening heats putting them in the driving seat, although David Bellego had to work extremely hard before eventually passing Mason Campton on the line in the first race.

The Comets put up some resistance with two successive 2-4’s in three and four, Ricky Wells and Kyle Howarth taking the chequered flag, but 14-10 was as close as they were to get all night.

With Wells and Josh Grajczonek taking successive victories in heats seven and eight, a series of drawn heats meant that at 30-24 after nine, Berwick had not completely shaken off the opposition.

But a second 5-1 from Vissing and Bellego in ten stretched the lead to 35-25 and the visitors were in tactical territory

Howart was nominated for double points in 11, but Matej Kus made a good start, which restricted Workington to a 3-5 heat advantage and when Doolan and Vissing continued their winning run in 12 and 13, the latter of which produced another 5-1 with Kus, the Bandits were home and dry at 47-33.

Joe Jacobs took advantage of a Matty Wethers mistake in 14 to come through for the win in 14, but there was no denying Vissing his full house in 15 when he made another determined start, followed home by Doolan, who also turned in an impressive showing.
