YM go down fighting

Hawick YM 14

Selkirk 21

HAWICK YM put in a gutsy display against Selkirk in the first competitive game between the two clubs.

In an exciting first half, in which Selkirk ran in two converted tries from Darren Clapperton and Fraser Harkness for a 14-0 lead after just eight minutes, YM hit back with a Bruce Campbell try and three Gregor Welsh penalties to leave things all square at 14-14.

After the break the battle ensued with no quarter given by either side until Scott Hendrie’s try (converted by Mike McVie) sealed the win for the Souters.
