Wigtown a real test of Albert’s resolve

Hawick Royal Albert seem to be handling the sacking of manager Mike Atai not too badly (see our website for full story), having won their first two games under Dean Shanks and Dean Robertson, writes John Slorance.

However, they know they have their work cut out on Saturday in their Scottish Cup second preliminary round away to Wigtown and Bladnoch.

Assistant manager Robertson said: “Apart from knowing they beat Vale of Leithen in the first round, we know very little about them. Our players know how important it is to the club to get into the Scottish Cup, though.”

Skipper Mark McEwan will be back after missing the past 10 matches.

Gala Fairydean Rovers entertain Stirling University at Netherdale on Saturday in the East of Scotland Qualifying Cup at the 3G Arena.

Gala right back Lee Stephen is suspended for the second round tie after being sent off in the first round victory over Leith.

Also in the qualiying cup, Vale of Leithen face Craigroyston at home.

In the East of Scotland First Division, Peebles Rovers travel to face Leith Athletic and Kelso United host Stirling University at Woodside Park.
