BORDERS rugby refs are having a busy time of it at the moment.
The first two weeks of the Six Nations Championship have seen Borders referee David Changleng officiating in Rome at the Italy v Ireland clash, and as assistant referee at the Ireland v France fixture.
Meanwhile, Hawick’s senior academy referee Cammy Rudkin will be in Madrid on Saturday, February 26, refereeing the Spain v Ukraine European Nations Cup match.
During the week of February 20 to 27, the Borders Rugby Referees Society will be hosting Brad Kleiner and Mark Kenny from New York, which has become a regular feature during the season with two Borderers going to the Big Apple for a similar time in the autumn.
Regional refereeing development manager Iain Heard is also looking to widen the number of assistant referees (touch judges) available as the sevens season approaches – and to this end he is holding a course on March 16 for anyone interested.
Mr Heard can be contacted on 07764 178926 for further information.
Added to the Border Kings of the Sevens tournaments, several members will be part of the officiating pool at the HSBC World Series Sevens at Murrayfield on the last weekend of May, while the world-famous Amsterdam Sevens will also feature Border referees following on from last year’s successful appearance by Iain Heard and Norman Jackson.
