Hawick YM 57

ROB HILL reports from Coatbridge

RAMPANT Redskins blitzed their opponents to lift the national two championship and subsequent promotion to National One.

The stuffy home defence managed to hold YM until the 13th minute, when Chris Ritson broke from under his own posts to halfway, where he offloaded to Ross Gibson. He took the move on and then passed back to Ritson who managed to beat his chasers to the line. Lee Armstrong converted.

Stalemate resumed and another 20 minutes passed before Ali Weir made the telling break to set up Lee Armstrong for the first of his three tries.

Just before half-time a brilliant break, covering the length of the pitch, saw Glyn Desport add a third try with Armstrong converting.

Within three minutes of the restart Armstrong scored the bonus point try that guaranteed promotion. He converted his own try and added a further penalty before converting another touchdown from Steven Mabon

A great backs move was finished off by Glyn Desport, Armstrong converting, and YM were out of sight.

Armstrong then scored an individual try when he spotted no-one home – his deft chip and chase saw him stroll under the posts – and again adding the extras.

The final try of the day saw Scott McLeod race away and dot under the posts which Armstrong converted for a personal tally of 32 points.
