Wands sting Wasps

Melrose Wasps 7

Hawick 38

BARC Coaches delivered Gala Wanderers to the Greenyards on Saturday to begin the new Borders Semi-junior season, and a cracking start it was too.

The result looks like it was an easy win for Gala, but they had to battle hard to subdue a lively and enthusiastic Wasps side.

Both teams ran the ball at every opportunity, but it was Gala who registered on the scoreboard most as Ruiari Howarth, Craig Hancock, Blair Reavely (2) and Ryan Shaw (2) ran in the tries, with Keith Young converting four.

Melrose were rewarded for their hard work with a consolation try, which was converted, towards the end of the game.
