AROUND 40 of the biggest names in South of Scotland rugby are confirmed to attend the celebration dinner at the Cardrona Hotel on Friday, June 24, which is being run in aid of the Bill McLaren Foundation.
Celebrities such as Colin Telfer, Jock Berthinussen, John Rutherford, John Jeffrey, Bobby Cunningham, Eric Paxton, Keith Robertson, Peter Dods, Robbie Welsh, Carl Hogg, Norman Suddon, Roy Laidlaw and Bryan Redpath have already confirmed their attendance.
It promises to be a fantastic night of nostalgia, with video footage from some of the memorable South games over the years also being shown.
There are also numerous Big Sheets from Bill McLaren’s famous archive available to purchase on the night, including games against touring sides such as South Africa, Australia and New Zealand.
Foundation secretary John Thorburn said: “This night is open to everyone who is passionate about South of Scotland rugby, whether you are a supporter, player, committee member or a company. An occasion such as this has not happened before and it is an opportunity to mix with some of the greats of the Scottish game – something that is sadly lacking in the professional world we are in now.
“It is really encouraging when the likes of Bryan Redpath and Carl Hogg are coming along to support the night, especially when they are based down south as successful coaches of Gloucester.”
Guest speaker for the night is England and Barbarian centre John Spencer, while Ross High RFC president Scott Glynn will provide his own brand of entertainment.
Chair for the evening is ex-Hawick stalwart Ian Barnes who stated: “I am really looking forward to the event and it promises to be a great night with the commitment shown from the former South players who are attending.”
