Tweedsiders put to the test by Biggar

A VIRTUALLY-unchanged Kelso had a hard battle against a much-changed Biggar side from the game earlier in the season.

The visitors belied their low position in the National League and opened the scoring after only two minutes with a Jon Sullivan try.

Ben Cooper slotted a penalty to close the gap before Richard Minto started and finished a try-scoring move up the touchline to put Kelso ahead. The lead was shortlived, however, with Biggar’s Luca Rees touching down for Craig Parker to convert.

Kelso struck a purple patch just before the break with Cooper slotting another penalty, before converting a Sam Hampson try to give the hosts an 18-12 interval lead.

Biggar came out fighting after the restart and two Parker penalties brought the scores level.

But Kelso managed to weather the storm and a final Cooper penalty ensured a hard and keenly-fought win for the hosts.
