GALA rugby ref Andrew McMenemy has struck success with selection for the British and Irish Cup Final – in his first year as a professional.
Bristol face Bedford Blues at the Memorial Stadium in Bristol on Saturday, a match shown live on Sky Sports (5.05pm) and McMenemy, 26, was chosen by a four-man selection panel from the four nations from which clubs compete.
He will be supported by two fellow Scots as assistant referees, Madras’ Rob Dickson and Graham Marshall of Kirkcaldy.
Scottish Rugby’s referees’ manager Roy McCombe welcomed McMenemy’s selection.
“This appointment is the culmination of a very good first season as a professional referee for Andrew,” he said.
During the past year McMenemy has also controlled New Zealand v South Africa matches – at the Emirates Airline Edinburgh 7s and the Women’s World Cup.
