Selkirk Rugby Club have been named as November’s BT Club of the Month not only for their continued success on the field, but their ability to engage with the community.
Selkirk’s first XV currently epitomise the club’s ambition and desire to achieve, having won all 13 of their BT National League Division 1 matches to date, three of which were in November.
Currently sitting perched at the top of the table on 60 league points, 15 ahead of their closest rivals GHA, the Philiphaugh side won two league games away to Jed-Forest (29-10) and Peebles (18-3) and one at home to Kelso (18-12), last month.
Club President, Mick Craig, proclaimed his delight at Selkirk being presented with the accolade. He said: “All involved here, at Philiphaugh, are really chuffed to have received this award, as it adds to what has already been a successful season for us.
As well as running two successful reserve sides, ‘A’ and The Stormers, Selkirk RFC were commended for maintaining a strong link with the local high school and Selkirk Youth Club to ensure that the best home-grown talent is coming through the system and into the senior ranks.
Other contributory factors were the running of an extremely successful mini rugby section, Selkirk Rhinos, and the utilisation of the facilities they have available.
As part of their prize, Selkirk receive a 12-month BT Sport subscription and £200 cash. They will also win a table for 10 at the Scottish Rugby Club Awards Dinner on Friday 29 May 2015 and will be on the shortlist for the BT Club of the Year award, to be announced at the dinner.
