Rugby: Parting of the ways for Gala RFC and George Graham

Following much speculation over the last few months Gala RFC have finally announced that they and head coach George Graham have parted company.

A short statement released by president Graham Low this morning said: “George Graham, coach has left Gala RFC by mutual consent. The club would like to thank George for his contribution to Gala over the past 7 seasons.”

Graham joined the Netherdale club in 2009 and among his many achievements has led them to a Scottish Cup victory and several Border League titles.

A string of bad results this season however sees the Maroons languishing near the bottom of the Premiership table facing a play-off match to determine their fate for next season. Graham has become increasingly frustrated this regarding Scottish Rugby’s policy of allowing professional players to appear in amateur club teams, calling it ‘an absolute joke’ earlier this year after being beaten by a Heriot’s team fielding three current pro players.
