BORDER LEAGUE POOL A
John Smith reports from Milntown
BOTH sides were minus several regulars for the Border League match under the Milntown floodlights on a slightly damp evening last Friday.
Peebles always looked the better team, as was expected from a premiership side, yet there was not that much separating the two at half time with the score 3-12.
Unfortunately the Milntown men were hit by a spate of injuries with five players having to leave the field at various stages and they ran out of replacements by the finish.
The visitors were strong in the scrum and moved the ball through the backs on numerous occasions. Fullback Neil Hogarth was always a threat when joining the three-quarters at pace and was rewarded with three tries.
Langholm defended stoutly for long periods and also had their moments in attack with the forwards working hard.
Hogarth swept in for two fine tries for Peebles in the opening half, one of which Neil Warnock converted. Niall Cubbon kicked a home penalty just before the interval.
The visitors went further ahead in the second half with tries from hooker Ryan McConnell and Warnock, both converted by the latter.
A quick tap by Langholm saw the pack surge at the visitors’ line and hooker Russell Anderson went over to score. Cubbon converted to make it 10-26 with 12 minutes remaining.
Further Peebles tries came from centre Dale Clancy, No 8 David Paxton and Hogarth, with Warnock adding one conversion.
